gingerbread house!

We made a gingerbread house a few weeks ago, and it lasted a few days. Which was a few days longer than I thought it would. Indie loved decorating it. I would find her gazing at the house saying, "oh mom, our gingerbread house is just sooooo beautiful!"

On Indie's actual birthday we went to the wasatch county fair. It was so much fun. The kids had wristbands granting them unlimited access to the rides. It was awesome. We definitely got our moneys worth.

Indie thought that the fair was just for her, and at one point said, "there are so many kids at MY party!"

What we did: Replaced the ceiling, and added recessed lighting. Re-surfaced and repainted the walls, toning down the black and white stripes with gray and white. Stained concrete floors. New vanity (craigslist dresser turned vanity, with a vessel sink, and faucet. Home Depot) New vanity light (Home Depot). New mirror (found on the side of the road) Mirror frame (1$ at yard sale). New bath mat (ikea). New shower curtain (Urban Outfitters). Medicine cabinet (ikea). New toilet paper holder, and towel hooks (Home Depot).

We started the morning off with a parade, Indie rode her plasma car.

Then we headed to Kahana Bay with all our buddies. The kids LOVED it, the water was perfect.

Then we got all dressed up, and headed to fireworks at Turtle Bay.

Tosh held the most still he has in his entire life during the firework show, and Indie plugged her ears the whole time.

It was a fabulous and memorable 4th! Can't wait till next year!

Indie has always been a great sleeper, up until two months ago. She used to sleep 8pm to 8am with no night waking and no fighting about going to bed. She would also take a 3 hour nap. It was dreamy. We went to Utah for three weeks in March and when we came back to Hawaii she had a very difficult time adjusting to the time change.

Now her sleep is all over the place. Getting out of bed at all hours. Falling asleep late, waking early, crazy long naps.

Lately this is how she sleeps best. She has a small night light, but likes the bright lamp. Obviously not ideal for Tosh. Any suggestions for a bright night light, but not crazy bright? I am also considering trying this clock.

One year ago today

Tosh, your whole life you have been picked on by your sister and her friends. Our house has been turned upside down from renovations. Your sleep schedule has been on the back burner. You have slept in the closet, laundry room, bathroom, living room, mom/dad's room, Indie's room, bouncer, car seat, pack n' play, co-sleeper, crib and friends' cribs. Every toy you have ever laid your eyes or hands on has been snatched away from you. And you have been the easiest, happiest baby through it ALL!

I am really loving having two kids!

They are becoming quite the pair, and are having more and more fun with one another. If Tosh is asleep and Indie is awake she is always saying "lets go wake tosh up now, okay mom." And I know if Tosh could talk he would be saying the same thing.

So Indie had her first lie, it was pretty hilarious. We had just put her to bed and were sitting on the couch watching tv, when she came out of her room totally fake crying and proclaiming that she had an owie on her finger. She was acting pretty hysterical and holding her finger out to me. I knew she was not serious, and asked her if she was just tricking us because she didn't want to go to bed. She instantly stopped crying and sheepishly smiled and exclaimed, "my owie is all gone!" We all burst out laughing. It was great.

I do not know how I created such a girly girl. If you ask Indie her favorite color, she will most definitely respond "pink!" I used to cringe at the thought of pink, and at 7 years old, cried when my soccer team jerseys were pink. My first day of kindergarten my mom told me that I looked pretty, I responded by saying, "I don't look pretty, I look like a cool dude."

Indie loves her "girl shirt" because it has ruffles on it, and if given the option will always choose to wear a dress or skirt. I NEVER wore a dress/skirt to school k-12. Not even once.

I am embracing her girlyness. I even bought her a very pink, and very ruffle-y tutu for Christmas. She insisted on wearing it to Foodland. I let her, and loved watching her prance around Foodland, feeling oh-so beautiful.

She loves to wear her princess dress, put on makeup (sometimes all by herself, when Grandma is watching her), paint her nails, and DANCE.

If you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up she will respond by saying, "Cinderella, and I will drive a pink car." When I was little I wanted to be a professional soccer player, and drive a Lamborghini.

I guess she gets it from Corbin.

Tosh is all of a sudden seeming so much older. He is almost 11 months old, which also means he is almost 1! I can't even believe it. He has a whole new bag of tricks. Not a very big bag, but a bag. He LOVES to clap, especially for himself. Waves Hi, and Bye, and does "soooo big". We love him.

Tosh loves to stand and is starting to cruise on furniture. He also loves crawling upstairs, and over obstacles. He crawls the fastest when there is an open door. He loves being outside and cries when I bring him in the house.

He is mellow, sweet, and kissable. He can clap and is very enthusiastic about food.

He loves his sister, and other kids. He is our happy little guy and we love him to pieces!

Meet Tosh Man. He is radical, and we love him.

If I had to use one word to describe Tosh it would be HAPPY. He is one happy little guy. Even though our lifestyle deprives him of quality naps, and his sister steals most of my attention, he is almost always smiling.

He is Indie's biggest fan. She can always get him to laugh. Even if she is pushing him away from her, he will squeal with delight.

He is mellow, patient, and sweet. He loves to grab my hair and face. Rolls and scoots all over the floor, sticks his tongue out a lot, and growls.

I love his sticky outy ears, fuzzy blonde hair, blue eyes, soft, squishy belly, and his curled up little toes. I feel so lucky to be his Mommy. I love you Tosh, I'm glad you are mine.

This is Indie's new favorite phrase. She is definitely testing her independence. If I do not let her do something on her own, then I am in for it.

Tonight a fit of frustration was triggered when I flushed her very own pee-pee down the toilet. I had asked her to flush the toilet three times before I finally got around to flushing it myself. Thinking she had no interest in the matter. Boy was I wrong! Upon my flushing the toilet she immediately screamed hysterically as she watched the water funnel its way down the pipes along with her pee. In all desperation she shoved her arms down the toilet bowl sincerely trying to recover anything she could. Grossed out by her pee covered self, I scooped her up and washed her hands, all the while she kicked and screamed. I set her down only to watch her proceed to stick her arms back into the toilet bowl and frantically grab at the water screaming "nooooooo, my pee-pee!" Not sure of what to do with my insane child, I walked out of the bathroom and sat on the couch. A few minutes later I was happily greeted by a smiling Indie. Apparently she had made a full recovery from this oh so traumatic experience.

She is very dramatic and possibly a little bipolar.

Two years ago today, I was in denial labor with you coming three and a half weeks ahead of schedule. Nothing could have prepared me for the life altering role of motherhood. And no one could have explained to me how quickly my heart would expand or how much my patience would be tested.

I have been in love with you since the moment our eyes met, and I somehow fall more and more in love with you each day! Even when you are standing on the counter screaming "I want CHOCOLATE!" and it is 8:30 in the morning and you haven't had breakfast yet.

Indie is a thumb sucker. She mostly loves sucking her thumb with her little security blanket we/she calls a soft. She is only allowed to use her soft during her nap and at bedtime, otherwise she gets pretty crazy intense over them. She has three softs, and they all get good and dirty. Today when I was doing laundry she spied me putting two of her softs into the hamper. She immediately knew she had to have them. So she snuck into the bathroom and somehow managed to get herself into the hamper and proceeded to suck away! What a silly little girl, we love her so.

Tosh is still in the hospital and he will be 5 days old in 12 long hours. I feel like I don't even know him, which makes me want to still look like this.

We went to the hospital this morning with high hopes that our little man would come home and join our family today. This hope became real for ten whole minutes when they told me it was so. I thought my heart was going to explode with joy. Then it crushed into a million tiny pieces when the test results for his bilirubin came back 2 points too high and they took back their previous promise. Please pray for the phototherapy to work, so my very fragile, hormonal, mother heart will not break again. I want to bring him home tomorrow.

I (Corbin) am writing this post because our regular family blogger was out having a baby today. The last time I wrote, Meg had a baby. Does anyone see a pattern? Ha ha. If this continues, I'm going to limit myself to two more posts.

If you didn't know it already, Meg is one tough chick! Five weeks ago, Meg was perscribed to bed rest due to pre-term labor. She spent many hours following the doctor's order. But, sometimes, bed rest was too much for Meg to handle. Consequently, I often caught Meg buying groceries, going to the beach, or chasing Indie around the house. Yesterday, Meg was caught doing all three. I'm sure that had something to do with the start of her labor at 3am this morning.

We returned from shopping at 12:30am this morning. Meg woke up to heavy contractions at 3am. She braved her way through the first two hours of increasingly painful contractions as I slept. When she woke me up, I quickly realized what she was about to say. I had anticipated this moment for weeks, but no amount of anticipation would have stopped the jolt of adrenaline that I felt when she said, "Corbin, I'm going to have the baby."

After dropping Indie off at Jackie's house (Thank you Jackie!), we frantically began the journey to the hospital, . On the drive, Meg's contractions quickly got out-of-control. At one point on the drive, I had the guts to ask her where her pain level was on a scale of 1 to 10. She replied that she hated that scale. At that point, I knew that she had long since passed a 10. As Meg got more and more vocal about making sure that I drove as fast as I could, I got more brave about running red lights. As I drove on the shoulder and cut people off, I couldn't help but wish that I had put signs for our car that read, "WE ARE HAVING A BABY, RIGHT NOW!" before we left. At times, we both thought a baby was going to come out in the car.

We arrived at the Castle Hospital just after 7:00am and the baby was born at 8:13am. It only took 12 minutes of pushing. The amazing part of it all is that Meg did it without any pain medication whatsoever! One tough chick is right.

Tosh Kainalu Knight Thomander weighs 5 pounds 13 ounces and is 19.5 inches long.

Indie has been getting ready for her baby brother to come. She has been carrying her baby doll around with her everywhere we go. She reads to it, feeds it what she eats, gives it sips of her milk, and even puts it to bed when she naps and at night.

She also makes it jump on the bed and couch with her, swing on bars, takes it for walks, slides it around on the half pipe, and wants it to take baths with her. She has had this doll for awhile and never showed even the slightest bit of interest in it until recently. I think she is preparing for her little brother to join us!

pre term labor

After a scary night of contractions every 2-3 minutes, 17 hours in the hospital with the huge ace bandage thing wrapped around me, and a contraction monitor pressing into my belly, several doses of Terbutaline to stop my contractions, lots of water, and no sleep, I am home.

My baby boy is still cooking, I am prescribed to the bed, and a dose of Terbutaline every 4 hours until I reach full term, and I am grateful. Grateful for prayers, and the power of the priesthood. Grateful for modern medicine. Grateful for amazingly helpful friends, a wonderful husband, and a supportive family. And grateful that I am still pregnant, and hope to be until June!

And just because I love her, and missed her so badly through it all.

Easter weekend we went camping with the Loveridge family at Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens! It was a lot of fun, and Brighton and Indie had a grand time roaming around the great outdoors.

They were quite the duo; never far from each other, each taking turns being the leader of their explorations.

Saturday morning we had an easter egg hunt, they caught on pretty fast once they learned the eggs were filled with CANDY!

Indie loves reading, coloring, jumping off of anything, her Daddy, her mommy, her friends, her aunties and uncles, her grandmas and grandpas, candy, Charlie and Lola, cats, swimming, play dough, peeling oranges, talking, her "soft", her blankets, going on walks, slides, swinging on bars, running in circles, the beach, cheese, and life!

Here is our latest weekend project; a skateboard picnic table!

Indie loves it, and so do I. Thanks to our half pipe and the abundance of discarded skate decks it provides us with, this project only cost us a whopping $5!

Happy Anniversary #4!!!!

Today is our fourth Anniversary! I can't believe how the time has flown!

I am so lucky to have found my best friend to spend this life and the next with.

I love you Corb, Happy Anniversary!

Today is also a momentous day because we are now homeowners! We bought the house that we moved into 4 years ago in Hau'ula! We couldn't be more thrilled!

We went to the surf contest at Sunset Beach

Then to Haleiwa where Corbin picked up this beauty for an early Christmas gift.

And of course we dined on some delicious shave ice!

Thanksgiving Day 2

Indie wasn't feeling her best at the beach Thanksgiving morning.

But she liked being dressed like an indian.

A Thanksgiving feast always tastes better after a mean surf session.

My first thanksgiving with any family in 7 years.

Day 1 Anna Visits!

We started the morning with a castles surf session. Anna had some major surf stoke!

And of course she shredded!

After naps we went to check out the massive north shore surf at Sunset Beach.

That night we saw the new night show at the PCC. Very inspirational!

Halloween Night

We started off Halloween night trick or treating on Moana and Iosepa streets. Indie was a little overwhelmed at first. All the costumes made her a little nervous.

She got more and more comfortable as the night went on.

And when she realized people were giving her candy, she was ecstatic!

Then we headed over to the Kontoes house and put all the babies to bed, and just hung out. Of course Corbin fell asleep within minutes, on the middle of the floor surrounded by talking people. Classic.

Then we all wandered outside to watch a spooky tale on the skate ramp. We started off watching one of my childhood favorites, The Dark Crystal.

Everyone thought is was pretty ridiculous and we decided to switch to Sweeny Todd. I fell asleep within the first few minutes, but I was exhausted. I am not used to watching movies laying down, at 11:00pm!

Overall it was a fabulous Halloween Night! Good friends, good times.

I can't believe it has been a month since my last post! We are still alive and well, and doing the same things as always; surfing, going to the beach, and working.

We also helped Dan and Jonna move down the street from us. We are soooo excited, so is Indie! She loves Auntie Jonna and Brighton.

I sewed Indies trick-o-treat bag and costume.

She is going to be a fish, for those of you who don't read Good Day Sunshine.

And we have been playing in our pool in our yard.

And for those of you who forgot what Corbin and I look like, well you will have to wait until the next post. Looks like we NEVER take pictures of us anymore, sorry!
